A soft aquamarine glass cushion with external seams, the casing turned back to reveal the interior. There is a play between the inside and the outside. The interior, a golden box, is protruding outwards. The cushion is made from a ribbed fabric, the hollows and bumps suggest more than what is on the surface and the seams are on the outside, creating a fluidity between the inside and the outside.
This is made of opaque aquamarine glass. I made a model of the cushion and its box first, then cast it in plaster. Then carefully positioned the 23.5ct gold and hoped it would stay in place! Then placed my measured glass in a crucible above my mould and fired it over 4 days. Once cool I broke away the mould and did some cold working.
