ROCKY SCULPTURES BY DEBORAH TIMPERELY
My rocky sculptures explore the beauty of stone bridges, harbour walls, dry stone walling and rocky outcrops.
The compositions are evocative of the landscape and they suggest rocks and stones placed harmoniously together, contrasting defined edges with the softness of adjacent vegetation. The blocks of colour echo the surrounding landscape, water and sky. They have a sense of place and atmosphere.
The sculptures are constructed by hand using chunks of glass to create a natural form.
The pieces are fired in the kiln over several days. Opening the kiln and discovering how the heat has worked with the glass within the mould to provide a unique piece is one of the joys of the material.
Forest glade with bluebells in sunlight
Forest Glade strives to capture sunlight slanting through the trees with glimpses of the blue sky above. The diagonals of light contrast with the vertical lines of the trees. Below is a carpet of bluebells.

Waterfall in sunlight
Waterfall aims to capture light on falling water and contrast with the deep blues of the rock pool below. The hillside on either side is a tapestry of grass and heathers.

HARBOUR WALL IN SETTING SUN
Harbour Wall is a free standing glass sculpture in beautiful blues and aqua, oranges and red. It’s inspired by a stone built harbour wall on a sunny day, blue skies reflected in the water, red boat hulls glinting in the sun
